Plate It with Silver, film, (2015), at the exhibition Of Land and Water at Ice Factory, Kalba, Sharjah. The exhibition presents works from the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection by nine international artists and collectives from 17 October 2025 to 31 May 2026.

Plate It With Silver is filmed in the Strait of Hormuz, exploring its history, trade routes, and communities. The film juxtaposes the smuggling of everyday goods across the Strait with an ancient Gulf practice of spirit possession, in which bodies are believed to be inhabited by “winds” connected to distant lands and waters.

A central sequence follows a silversmith plating a rattan stick used in possession rituals. The transformation of silver—from melting and hammering to carving and plating—connects material wealth with the immaterial world of spirits. The film brings these two forms of exchange together, revealing hidden networks of movement, belief, and negotiation beneath the Strait’s geopolitical and economic systems.
